Armed robber on the loose

Kelowna RCMP are looking for a suspect in an armed robbery.

They hope surveillance images of the suspect will lead to an arrest.

Police were called to a business on the 1800 block of Cooper Road for a weapons complaint shortly after 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.

A security guard apparently confronted a shoplifting suspect, who produced a knife and lunged at the man.

“The armed suspect was last seen on foot, running towards the rear of Orchard Plaza, through the pedestrian breezeway next to the movie theatre,” says Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey.

“RCMP set up an area of containment and called out a police canine to conduct a search for the suspect. Unfortunately, due to the heavy pedestrian foot traffic in the area, the search was later called off as a result of concerns for public safety.”

The suspect is described as Caucasian, about six-foot-six, with a thin build and blond hair. The man was wearing blue jeans, a black jacket, blue backpack and a grey cap.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Kelowna RCMP at 250-762-3300 or CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-8477, www.crimestoppers.net or by texting CRIMES (274637) ktown.
