PARTY to stop youth trauma

A group of UBCO nursing students is having a PARTY to bring awareness and education about substance use and risky behaviour that results in trauma in youth.

In this case, PARTY, stands for "prevent alcohol and risk related trauma in youth."

“The goal of this program is to reduce deaths and injuries associated with alcohol, drugs, and risk-taking behaviour,” said one of the group members.

During the program, high school students will move through various stations at Kelowna General Hospital to gain first-hand experience of what happens during a traumatic incident.

“We hope to create awareness so that all high school students can experience this positive-preventative strategy and decrease risk related-trauma in youth, and preventable deaths,” the group said.

The program is being provided to all schools in the Central Okanagan.

Melissa Ames, Makayla Bailey, Sara Osachoff, Vanessa Rachfalski and Kelsi Taron are the fourth year students who co-ordinated the program.
