NDP close to nominating

The Kelowna West constituency association is itching to begin campaigning for the byelection in the Kelowna West riding.

Association spokesperson Patricia Munro said the topic of the byelection was brought up at last weekend's party convention in Victoria.

Munro said they are waiting for the go ahead to hold a nominating meeting, but added that should be coming down very soon.

She said the NDP are anxious to begin campaigning in order to get their message out to the local electorate.

The byelection was made necessary after former Liberal party leader and MLA Christy Clark announced she was stepping down from both positions.

Ben Stewart, who held the riding before stepping down in favour of Clark in 2013, will carry the Liberal banner.

Shelley Cook ran unsuccessfully against Clark back in May.

The NDP government has yet to announce a date for the byelection, expected sometime early next year.
