Funds for creek mitigation

The City of Kelowna hopes to take advantage of a Union of BC Municipalities program for flood mitigation planned along Mill Creek.

The UBCM provides funds for municipalities under the Community Emergency Preparedness Fund for risk assessment, flood mapping and flood mitigation planning.

The program can provide 100 per cent of costs up to $150,000.

Senior manager Ron Westlake said the city has been working with the Regional District of Central Okanagan and Okanagan Basin Water Board on water resource management.

Westlake said the city is applying for funds for the Mill Creek project while the regional district is making a similar application for Mission Creek.

"It both are organizations are successful in getting their applications approved, they will pool their resources to have detailed mapping prepared by a common contractor," said Westlake.
