Biggest meal of the year

Weeks of preparation have gone into Monday's Thanksgiving dinner at Kelowna Gospel Mission.

The mission will serve hundreds of guests in a sit-down meal from noon to 6 p.m.

Not only the homeless and shelter clients are welcome. The dinner is open to anyone struggling to make ends meet.

A traditional feast of turkey, stuffing, ham, mashed potatoes, vegetables, cranberry sauce, rolls and pumpkin pie will be served.

More than 50 volunteers will help out for the day, including MP Stephen Fuhr, MLAs Steve Thomson and Norm Letnick, and Coun. Ryan Donn.

“Last year, we served over 960 Thanksgiving dinners," said executive director Randy Benson.

"With expenses going up and affordable housing extremely difficult to find, we expect to serve more people than ever on Monday.  We’re so grateful to the caring community in Kelowna for making it possible to provide meals on Thanksgiving and throughout the year.”
