Where'd centennial sign go?

It's been adorning the entrance to Rutland Centennial Park for decades – until now.

Castanet readers have been wondering just what has become of the Rutland Centennial Park archway sign. Had it been stolen or just taken down?

Seems it was the latter.

Rutland Park Society treasurer Wendi Swarbrick says the sign was taken down by the society to preserve it for future use.

The sign, and the pillars that support it would have to be removed as part of the Shepherd Road extension.

The road will be extended through what is now the driveway into the park and Centennial Hall. The City of Kelowna purchased the right-of-way and Centennial Park from the Rutland Park Society two years ago.

Construction is expected to begin soon.

Swarbrick says the sign is in storage and will be incorporated into phase two of renovations to the hall.
