Passed out after crime spree

A man with a criminal record dating back nearly two decades is a guest of the Kelowna RCMP following a weekend crime spree.

According to police, events began unfolding shortly before 8 a.m. Saturday, when a Volkswagen Golf was stolen from Lake Country.

Mid-afternoon, a male and female drove the VW onto a property in the Lower Mission, assaulted the owner of a Chevy pickup, stole his keys, and fled, leaving the Golf behind. A short time later, the owner of a Lexus informed police his vehicle was missing, and a Chevy pickup was left in its place.

Police spotted the Lexus about 8:30 that evening, but it wasn't until about 10:45 when police were tipped that a Lexus was in the Kelowna Golf and Country Club parking lot with its engine running that police were able to catch up with the pair.

The two were apparently passed out in the vehicle.

Jesse Shawcross, 37, from Kamloops, and Cheri McCann, 30, of no fixed address, were arrested and taken into custody.

Shawcross has a lengthy criminal record dating back to 1999. He also had several outstanding warrants for drug and breach charges.

Both remain in custody.
