Crews fight garage fire

Kelowna firefighters fought a garage fire Saturday night at a residence on the 4800 block of Dillon Place.

Crews were called out at approximately 8:45 p.m. when calls came in about grey smoke coming from a house.

“The first arriving officer reported smoke coming from the garage and roof area above it,” said Platoon Captain John Kelly. “The crew forced entry into the garage to discover a large fire involving the contents of the garage.”

A total of 15 personnel responded in three engines and a rescue and command vehicle.

Kelly said the fire was quickly extinguished with damage contained to the garage and only minor smoke migration into the house.

No one was home at the time.

The cause of the fire is believed to be electrical in nature, Kelly said.

“The Kelowna Fire Department would like to remind everyone to check your smoke alarms. They do save lives.”
