YLW: polo to planes

From polo to planes...

The City of Kelowna has acquired a Bulman Road property currently leased by the Okanagan Polo Club as future expansion land for Kelowna International Airport.

The 4440/4444 Bulman Rd. property is part of the city's long-term land use strategy for the airport.

The polo club will continue to operate on the property in the meantime.

“The purchase of this property was very important to guarantee the long-term success of the airport,” said airport director Sam Samaddar. “We need to ensure that we have the available land to support the future growth of YLW.”

The 78-acre property was purchased for $3.99 million. It was funded by airport reserves, with no additional tax burden on Kelowna residents.

YLW is one of the top 11 busiest airports in Canada, with an economic impact of 4,545 jobs and $789 million. It served 1.7 million passengers in 2016.
