Making up for lost time

Madison Erhardt

Two months of battling floods has some downtown Kelowna businesses scrambling to make up for lost time.

News of the high water levels coupled with dock and beach closures have had an effect, says Maegan Young of Maeg's BBQ Boats.

She says she's seen a difference compared to previous years.

"A lot of people thought we weren't operating and the lake was shut down," Young said.

But she's hopeful things will get back to normal soon.

"People are starting to realize it was more high water levels than flooding in the downtown core. This last weekend, we were quite busy," Young said.

Rose's Pub has taken a hit over the past couple of weeks as well.

Floor manager Michelle Martin, a 12-year veteran, says it has been a lot slower than normal.

"The flooding and lack of tourism hurt, as well as people cancelling their rooms in hotels next door. We also haven't had the boat traffic, so all together, it has been quite slower," Martin said.
