Kelowna

By students, for students

Madison Erhardt

It's all about the hands-on experience at Okanagan College.

Stephen Fuhr, MP for Kelowna-Lake Country, announced Wednesday the federal government will contribute $332,485 toward the Trades Training House at the college’s Kelowna campus.

The house will be built by students so they can learn real-life skills in the trades industry.

The funding is being allocated through the post-secondary institutions strategic investment fund.

“Our government values the role of post-secondary institutions like Okanagan College as they help equip young Canadians with the education and training they need for future careers so they may join a strong, healthy middle class," Fuhr said.

"This will give the trades students a chance to work together on various projects in a real-world setting. It will benefit our apprentice and foundation students, but will also be a great tool for some of our special programs, said Jim Hamilton, president of Okanagan College.
