Tip leads to drug bust

A tip to the Kelowna RCMP has taken cocaine and crystal methamphetamine off the street – and landed a suspected drug dealer behind bars.

Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey says police received the tip about a vehicle believed to be involved in the drug trade in downtown Kelowna.

An investigation determined the vehicle to be a rental.

On Feb. 22, police gathered sufficient evidence to arrest the man, who was safely taken into custody outside a business on the 2000 block of Harvey Avenue.

“Following his arrest, our officers obtained and subsequently executed a search warrant on the man’s apartment located on the 700 block of Leon Avenue,” said O’Donaghey. “In total, RCMP seized in excess of one pound of various forms of suspected cocaine, over 30 grams of crystal methamphetamine, over $15,000 in cash, and equipment consistent with the sale of illicit drugs.”

The unidentified 21-year-old Kelowna man faces potential drug-related charges and was released from police custody on strict conditions.

He is expected to appear in Court on May 11.
