Pepper sprayed in parkade

A custodian was pepper sprayed Tuesday night when he confronted a man breaking into a vehicle.

The 56-year-old was working at an apartment on Gordon Drive when he heard the sound of glass breaking in the building’s parkade about 9:30 p.m.

He told police he saw a man leaning into a vehicle that had its windows smashed.

The custodian confronted the suspect, who then threatened him with bolt cutters and sprayed him with pepper spray.

He then fled the scene on a red BMX bicycle, travelling northbound on Gordon Drive.

The suspect is a Caucasian male, believed to be in his twenties, five-foot-seven, with a red moustache.

He was wearing a black baseball cap, a green army-type hooded coat and blue jeans.

Police recommend the public not engage with people breaking the law.

"If that person has a weapon, they may use it in an attempt to get away,” said Const. Steve Holmes. “Instead of confronting, make observations ... that can be passed on to police."

Anyone with information about the incident is being asked to contact police.
