Firefighters go Wilde

Kelowna Fire Department deputy Chief Lou Wilde has been appointed the interim chief.

He'll fill the void that will be left by fire Chief Jeff Carlisle, who will retire March 3.

The City of Kelowna said in a statement that Wilde has been with the Kelowna Fire Department for more than 30 years and has served as a chief officer since 2003. he has led the Fire Prevention, Training and Administration Branch.

"Deputy Chief Wilde has a wealth of knowledge and experience in Kelowna including fire and emergency management," said the city in a statement. "The interim transition until a new fire chief is determined will be seamless."

The city has started its process to recruit its new chief and it's expected that person will be named in the spring.
