Saving a piece of heritage

Winners of this year’s Heritage Awards in the Central Okanagan have been announced.

The Central Okanagan Heritage Society presented the awards on Wednesday, marking the 33rd year of the program.

Downtown Kelowna's BNA Brewing Co. was recognized for its non-residential conservation project on a heritage building.

In the residential category, the J.N. Thompson house was honoured.

G.D. Loane house and the Hughes building were awarded for continued conservation of a heritage building and their high quality of preservation and maintenance over the years.

Johns Family Nature Conservancy Regional Park was recognized for preservation of a neighbourhood area.

In the distinguished community service category, there were three winners – Ken and Gwen Campbell, and Ferne Jean for their service in the heritage field.

The special heritage projects award, which recognizes special projects and accomplishments in the Central Okanagan, was given to the stabilization of the Brent’s Grist Mill building.
