Make every vote count

About a dozen people braved the cold in Kelowna Tuesday to hold a demonstration in favour of proportional representation.

Holding signs that read "Make Every Vote Count," the local electoral reform advocates picketed outside of Liberal MP Stephen Fuhr's Kelowna office.

"We're here to try to remind the Liberals of the promise they made in 2015, to make that the last election under the current system," said Wayne Broughton, UBCO professor and member of Lead Now, an advocacy group pushing for democratic reforms.

The Kelowna demonstration was one of a number being held across the country Tuesday.

Prior to Stephen Fuhr's election, he publicly stated support of proportional representation for voting in future federal elections.

A letter was to be delivered to Fuhr's office asking for written responses to some questions about the issue.

Fuhr was not at the demonstration but tweeted a picture to Castanet News stating he was doing his part to make every vote count.
