If you're a FortisBC electricity customer, you'll see your bill start to go up again in the new year.
The Kelowna-based utility received interim approval from the BC Utilities Commission to raise its electricity rate by 2.76 per cent – slightly less than the 3.7 per cent increase it was seeking in its application.
That's an increase of about $3.65 per month for the average residential electricity customer.
The company said the increase is due to ongoing maintenance and the cost of purchasing power.
“We work to make investments in the system and purchase the necessary capacity so our customers have power when they need it most now and into the future,” said Diane Roy, the company's vice president of regulatory affairs.
The change takes effect on Jan. 1, 2017.
FortisBC's parent company, Fortis Inc., has seen its revenue increase from just over $4 billion in 2013 to $6.7 billion in 2015.
BC Hydro rates are lower than FortisBC rates.
