Warmest Nov. recorded

As this month wraps up, it will go down as the warmest November in recorded history in Kelowna.

Environment and Climate Change Canada recorded the mean monthly temperature at 6.8 C, a full 5.2 degrees higher than the historical average.

“That ranks No. 1 for warmest November on record,” said meteorologist Armel Castellan; “...5.2 C above normal is massively significant.”

The previous warmest November dates back to 2009, when the mean monthly temperature was 4.4 C. This data has been collected since 1968.

Kelowna wasn't the only place in the province to break the warmest mean monthly temperature record.

“The same is true for Vancouver, Cranbrook, Victoria, Kamloops, Vernon, Comox, all with essentially the warmest Novembers on record,” Castellan said.

Globally, Castellan says 2016 is on track to be warmer than 2015, which was previously the warmest year on record.

Despite the mild weather, Environment Canada expects December to be a bit cooler than normal, which is good news for those hoping for snow instead of rain on the ski hills.
