College keeps up growth

Okanagan College's enrolment continues to grow, climbing four per cent since last year across its four major campuses.

As of Sept. 16, the last date students can change their classes, 8,329 students were enrolled at the college, compared to 8,005 last year.

“We can likely expect that this will be the 12th consecutive year that we exceed government’s total enrolment targets,” Okanagan College president Jim Hamilton said in a press release. “More importantly, the strong demand for our programming indicates we are providing relevant and valuable education for our communities, and that’s what is most important to us.”

Kelowna'a campus grew by 3.5 per cent from last year, hitting 5,059 students. Salmon Arm's campus grew the most, by 23 per cent, to 638 students, while Vernon reached 1,070 students, a 6.8 per cent growth.

Penticton's campus dropped to 913 students, from 966 last year, but the number of course registrations there actually increased by four per cent.

Additionally, international student enrolment increased substantially, reaching 683 students from 534 last year.
