Rather text than talk?

Would you rather text than talk on the phone?

You’re not alone.

Technology has changed the way we communicate. But should you be worried?

Three experts will discuss their research on how technology is affecting our relationships at a free public forum next week.

UBCO professors Susan Holtzman and Michael Woodworth, along with Michelle Drouin from Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne will discuss the matter Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Mary Irwin Theatre.

Holtzman asks: Text messaging is a popular way of staying connected with friends and family. Can digital interactions have the same emotional benefits as face-to-face?

Drouin will speak about how texting, sexting and online interactions might hinder our ability to develop authentic romantic connections.

Woodworth looks into the rise of Internet con artists. As people look online for life partners to used cars, the honesty of those we deal with becomes more important.

After the presentation, a panel discussion will take place. Pre-registration is required.
