Fall wine fest ready

As winery workers and winemakers begin the production of this year's vintage, wine enthusiasts are getting ready for the 36th-annual Fall Okanagan Wine Festival.

The annual celebration put on by the Okanagan Wine Festivals Society is expected to attract more than 20,000 visitors to the valley.

Running from Sept. 29 to Oct. 9, the fall wine festival includes more than 120 events events at dozens of wineries and locations throughout the Valley.

“The wine festivals are an experience for all who love fabulous wine accompanied by great food, unique events and a breathtaking setting,” writes Okanagan Wine Festivals.

The B.C. Wine Awards and Reception is held on opening night at the Laurel Packing House, B.C.’s oldest wine judging competition.

To kick off the weekend, the Fall Westjet Wine Tastings event runs Friday night. The always-popular two-night event is already sold out, once again.

If you didn't get tickets to the Westjet tastings, you can also enjoy Food Truck Friday at SpierHead Winery Friday evening.

Throughout the festival several wineries will be offering daily specials, events and menus.

Gray Monk is offering a definitive wine country experience with a wine flight and dish of charcuterie & cheese, Poplar Grove Winery is offering a six course wine-paired menu each night and Quails' Gate Winery is offering a four-course Autumn Harvest Tasting Menu among others.
