Dragon boaters on a roll

After a clean sweep in Kamloops two weeks ago, the Okanagan Dragon Boat Racing Club is looking to continue its success in Kelowna Aug. 27 and 28.

The club is only four years old, but has proven very competitive.

In Kamloops, both the mixed and women's teams won every heat they competed in, taking both gold medals.

Dragon boat racing involves 22 people per boat, and Barbara Riggs, the ODBCR, says about 40 people in their club participated in the Kamloops races.

The Kelowna event, held at Tugboat Beach, is hosted by the Kelowna Dragon Boat Club, the other club in Kelowna.

Riggs says there is a bit of a rivalry between the two clubs.

“We like to consider ourselves more competitive than the Kelowna club,” Riggs said.

Teams will be coming from all over B.C. to compete at the Tugboat Beach event.
