Pallet fire quickly doused

A stack of bins and pallets erupted in flames overnight in Kelowna.

Firefighters were called to the Sun City Cherries packing plant on the 4000 block of Lakeshore Road about 2:30 a.m.

The fire was outside the building, and spectacular flames leapt from the pile of bins, pallets and cardboard boxes.

Platoon Capt. Tim Light says no structures were threatened by the blaze, but some overhead telephone and data wires were close to the fire.

Two fire engines, a tender and command vehicle responded to the scene with nine personnel to extinguish the flames.

Crews remained on scene into the morning, mopping up and checking for hotspots.
