ORIGINAL: 8 a.m.

Police are on the chase Tuesday morning in Rutland after a woman was assaulted by a man with a weapon in a home on Franklyn Road.

On August 16 at 5:51 a.m., Kelowna RCMP responded to a report of the alleged assault with a weapon committed inside a residence in the 400 block of Franklyn Road.

Const. Jesse O'Donaghey says the victim, a Kelowna woman in her twenties, was transported to hospital with what police believe to be non-life-threatening injuries.

Witnesses tell Castanet the woman was stabbed in the back by a man and rushed to hospital in a civilian vehicle with police escort. This information has not confirmed by RCMP.

The RCMP K9 unit was also seen scouring the area searching for the suspect, who police are still looking for.

As the investigation is ongoing and charges have not been laid, O'Donaghey says police are not releasing the man's name at this point.

“RCMP can confirm that the victim and the suspect were known to each other and that this appears to be an isolated incident,” adds O'Donaghey.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Kelowna RCMP at 250-762-3300.
