Pursuit of 'Moola'

To steal a basketball phrase, Mayor Colin Basran calls Kelowna's pursuit of a lucrative tech company a full-court-press.

Basran, who has never been shy in his pursuit of the tech sector for Kelowna, said the city is wooing RentMoola, a Vancouver start-up that was the big winner at the recently concluded Metabridge event in Kelowna.

RentMoola is an online service that allows customers to pay rent by debit card, credit card or online.

"I have made no secret about it, nor has anyone else in town, that we are pursuing them very hard to relocate to Kelowna," said Basran earlier this week.

"It helps that one of the founders has family in our city. They have been absolutely impressed with what they've seen."

Basran said RentMoola has the potential for between 200 and 300 employees.

"Their idea is really simple when you think about it, but not done before."

The mayor said the city will continue to pursue RentMoola, as well as other leads that came as a result of another successful Metabridge.
