Van fire on Westside Road

The Wilson Landing Fire Department were called to a van fire on Westside Road Sunday evening.

Witnesses said the VW van caught fire while a man was driving it, but he was able to steer the van into a pull-out before exiting the vehicle.

The incident happened just after 6:30 p.m.

“A Good Samaritan passed by and had a fire extinguisher in his truck and ran to put the fire out. Unfortunately the size of the extinguisher just wasn't enough. They almost had it out but the extinguisher ran out,” a witness told Castanet in an email.

“Fire crews were on the scene right away and got the fire under control.”
