Golf pros and NHL stars have taken over Kelowna’s own Gallagher’s Canyon Golf & Country Club this week for one of the 11 stops on the Mackenzie Tour – PGA Tour Canada.
This is the first time the tour has passed through Kelowna, a location that’s been on organizers’ radar since the tour became part of the PGA in 2013.
The 72-hole tournament kicks off Thursday when 156 golfers from around the world take to the course to find out who’s the best of the best.
Four NHL players paired up with four golfers Wednesday afternoon for a charity skins game.
The charity game was delayed due to thunder on the course, but $10,000 was donated to the charity of the winning pair’s choice.
Thirteen of the athletes competing this weekend are from British Columbia, including Greg Machtaler from Summerland, Conner Kozak from Vernon, and John Mlikotic from Kelowna.
Additionally, Jacqueline Bendrick will be the first female to compete in the Mackenzie Tour since it became part of the PGA tour in 2013.
The tournament runs through until Sunday, when the winner will take home the $31,500 top prize, of a total $175,000 purse.
