Giving back in City Park

Dozens of Telus employees, and their family and friends, were hard at work in City Park Saturday morning, looking to make Kelowna a little more beautiful.

The team was pouring gravel for a new trail near Mushroom Beach, or Lake Avenue beach access as it’s known to some, and painting a mural in the pedestrian tunnel under the William R. Bennett Bridge.

Telus is in the middle of their 11th annual Telus Days of Giving, a month-long project where the company gives back to the communities they serve.

“Throughout the entire month there’s community projects that take place all over,” said Jennifer Park, community investment manager with Telus. “The goal is to complete 1,000 projects across Canada in one month.”

In addition to the work by Telus employees, the company gave $5,000 to the Central Okanagan Foundation, which will go towards completing a new basketball court in City Park.

“This is our first gift from the Telus community so we greatly appreciate it,” said Bruce Davies, executive director with the Central Okanagan Foundation.

Norm Letnick, MLA for Kelowna-Lake Country, was manning the grill Saturday, feeding the hungry workers.

“We need to get the message out to all corporations that part of their raison d'être is profit for sure, but also helping communities become better, and Telus does a good job of that,” Letnick said.
