Gather round the garden

Residents of Interior Health’s David Lloyd Jones home finally have a place to sit and enjoy the outdoors.

What is now the Bernard Garden used to be a large patch of green grass, inaccessible to those in the home.

Residential care manager Jon Claire says the Bernard Garden project has been in the works for about two years.

“We worked with the KGH Foundation for some fundraising to develop the area you see today, which is far more usable for our folks,” he said.

The garden features a rock water feature, an outdoor leisure space and shrubbery.

Money for the garden was donated by the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 26 in the amount of $25,000, while additional funding to complete the project was provided by the KGH Foundation.

Residents celebrated their new garden at an official opening on Thursday afternoon.

Many said they had been waiting a long time to enjoy a space like the garden, where they could sit and chat with friends or just enjoy a breath of fresh air.
