Gallery coming to town

The Vancouver Art Gallery is hitting the road, stopping first in Kelowna.

The biggest art gallery in western Canada will be moving to a new location in the coming years and wants to tell the rest of British Columbia about it.

Kathleen Bartels, director of the VAG, and renowned B.C. artist Paul Wong will present the VAG’s future vision at the Kelowna Art Gallery Thursday evening.

“It’s not just a public gallery for Vancouver,” said Joshua Desnoyers, marketing and events co-ordinator at the Kelowna Art Gallery. “It’s truly for all the people in British Columbia and it’ll benefit them as well.”

The new gallery will be located at the intersection of West Georgia and Cambie Street in Vancouver, just north of BC Place.

The design for the new gallery was unveiled last September, and the gallery plans to break ground on the new building in 2017.

“They’re just talking about what they’re doing and what the next steps forward are,” Desnoyers said. “A project of this nature needs support from all over the place.”

Thursday’s event will run from 5 -7 p.m., and requires an RSVP
