St. Joseph breaking ground

Shovels will hit the ground at the end of the month to signify the beginning of a fresh face for an independent school in Kelowna.

The official ground-breaking ceremony for the new St. Joseph Elementary School location will be held on May 25 at 8:30 a.m. at 839 Sutherland Avenue.

“All students, staff and teachers will be in attendance along with parents, invited guests and more,” says Holly Routley with the St. Joseph Project.

“The local Knights of Columbus will host an on-site pancake breakfast immediately following the ceremony.”

St. Joseph has been a part of the local community for nearly 80 years.

The current physical buildings of St. Joseph Elementary School have graduated thousands of students over the years, but the time has come to retire them.

“In the works for almost a decade, the $4.8 million St. Joseph Project will see a brand new school rise from the old during the spring/summer of 2016,” says Routley.

“A creative and unique combination of a new, off-site build, mixed with extensive on-site renovation means the new St. Joseph School will not only open in record time, but will be able to welcome upwards of 100 additional students once complete.”

Full occupancy of the new facility is planned for September 2016.

“Currently home to more than 230 children from Kindergarten to grade seven, St. Joseph School is the only inner-city Catholic elementary school representing more than three-thousand Catholic families in the immediate Kelowna area,” says Routley.
