Gordon partially reopens

UPDATE: 6:20 p.m.

Alternating traffic is now being allowed through on Gordon Drive near Dorothea Walker Elementary after the road was closed for several hours, due to downed lines along the road.

UPDATE: 1:45 p.m.

With Gordon Drive closed in front of Dorothea Walker Elementary, parents are being told to access the school from the south side of Gordon using DeHart, or on Green Road to pick up children.

The north entrance cannot be accessed. Parents are also asked to consider walking to the school as the area will be congested with traffic.

RCMP are currently at the school to assist with dismissal of the students. Everyone is reported to be safe inside the building.

According to FortisBC personnel on site, power has not been affected and it appears only Telus and Shaw Cable lines are down. At least three poles have been knocked to the ground.

UPDATE: 1:30 p.m.

The Kelowna RCMP says emergency crews have temporarily closed roads in the Mission and are asking drivers to avoid the area from Old Medows Road on Gordon Drive to Dehart Road.
