And they're up

Construction is right on schedule for the new Telus two-storey building on Ellis Street.

A giant crane, from Vancouver and one of the largest in the province, was on site Wednesday to move concrete panels into place.

Brandon Westgate with Plan B Contractors says crews started demolition on the old structures in December 2015 to make way for the new building.

“We started building our panels five to six weeks ago,” he said. “We start off with the footings, the perimeter footings then come back and do the underground plumbing then everything gets capped off below the slabs so we have a nice clean work area to start from and then we start pouring panels.”

Each panel will be brought up one at a time, with a crew of about seven.

“They get anchored down as they go, at which point, if all the panels are brought up, we will bring in the structural steel welders who will tie them all together," said Westgate.

It will take just over two days to complete the task of propping up the panels and Telus is set to take the keys in November of this year. An aggressive schedule for the contractors said Westgate, but not an issue.
