Lucky leap to escape crash

A motorcyclist is lucky to escape injury after a chain-reaction crash about noon in Kelowna.

The motorcyclist was stopped in traffic on Harvey Avenue between Richter and Ethel when he realized the white van behind him wasn't going to stop in time.

"I was stopped in traffic and then I heard the screech. I looked over and saw him coming — he was going too fast for being five feet away and I was stopped," he told Castanet. "I was ready to leap."

The van slammed into the motorcycle, and a GMC Terrain then smashed into the van, causing extensive damage.

"Traffic was stopped and people were driving too fast. Somebody wasn't looking."

The driver of the van was loaded into an ambulance, while a woman and child in the silver GMC apparently escaped with minor injury.

Traffic was backed up northbound on Harvey Avenue.
