Big problem, small solution

A B.C. company may have a small solution to a big problem.

Honomobo is hoping to address Kelowna’s need for low-cost housing solutions and rental suites by making small homes a big deal.

According to Honomobo, there are several hundred existing lots eligible for a carriage home and Kelowna’s mature neighbourhoods are well positioned to help ease the current housing crisis.

“Building additional condos and developing more sprawling land is the traditional way to provide more housing, but utilizing existing lots is more environmentally sensitive, faster and makes much better economic sense for the city and existing homeowners,” said Honomobo co-founder Daniel Engelmann.

Honomobo is introducing its modern shipping container suites to Kelowna at a pre-launch event April 7 at Third Space Coffee in the Landmark 2 building from 4 to 7 p.m.

An open house is scheduled for June to showcase one of its 528-square-foot, one-bedroom suites.

A Honomobo is a modern plug-and-play carriage suite manufactured in B.C. from shipping containers, which reduces on-site construction time from months to weeks, with the end product being a durable, energy-efficient living space.

“Our concept is simple. Take a durable, readily available, and cost-effective structure, the shipping container, and turn it into a sleek, beautiful living space. We have embraced the essence and durability of the container while turning it into an extremely livable and modern home,” said Engelmann.
