Man dead in stabbing

UPDATED: 2:04 P.M.

The fatal stabbing took place at a housing complex on Gerstmar Road near Highway 33.

A woman who lives in the complex heard shouting just before 10 p.m. Friday night.

"I was out here smoking and I heard yelling and screaming, so I got up and looked down there and I see a woman and a man having words," she said. "I could tell she was really upset, but he's walking away, not running.

"I think she was saying, 'don't leave' or 'get back over here,' and he left. He didn't seem panicked though, he was walking."

She says within minutes of the altercation, "a lot of police and a lot of ambulances" arrived at the complex.

She had heard there was a social gathering in the unit where the stabbing took place, and the man who lived there was the victim.

"They had a social gathering and they were drinking, and so we're just assuming, I don't know anything, that it was a drunken altercation between people who knew each other."

A 26-year-old suspect was arrested on Leathead Road shortly after the incident.
