Kelowna cop charged

A local RCMP officer is on administrative leave after he was charged with assault.

Kelowna Superintendent Nick Romanchuk said in a press release that Cpl. Chris Williams will appear in court March 22.

“A police officer with the Kelowna RCMP has been charged with common assault following an investigation into his handling of a man he had arrested May 29, 2015, during a drug investigation,” says Romanchuk.

Williams is currently on administrative leave. The matter is being dealt with in the courts and through a parallel RCMP code of conduct process.

This is the third RMCP officer within the last week to be charged with a criminal offence in B.C

Burnaby’s Const. Harinder Paul Pabla is facing two charges of impaired driving following incidents that occurred while he was off duty.

And Terrace Mountie Const. Bruce Lofroth has also been charged with assault in connection with the arrest of a “young person” in Terrace almost two years ago.
