Fog delays at YLW

ORIGINAL: 10 a.m.

Fog is playing havoc with flights in and out of Kelowna International Airport.

Currently, three inbound and six outbound flights have been delayed.

If you're flying out or expect people coming into Kelowna, check the YLW arrivals and departures page.

The good news – the fog should dissipate by noon today.

Environment Canada meteorologist Matt MacDonald says a high-pressure ridge centred over the coast is to blame for the fog.

"A ridge of high pressure means fog for the Interior valleys," says MacDonald.

"We're lucky that we're almost to the middle of February, so the sun is stronger these days. It will burn off the fog."

There are patches of fog along the Okanagan Connector, depending on the elevation. There is some sunshine at Elkhart and around the Brenda Mines area.

In other parts of the province, MacDonald says he expects several record high temperatures to be set.

"The intensity of this ridge is really impressive.

"Some of the coastal temperatures are being forecast as high as 17 C or 18 C, believe it or not."

Because of the fog, Okanagan centres won't get the type of heat.

However, a forecast high in the 5 C range is still two or three degrees above normal.

MacDonald doesn't expect the ridge to remain, meaning we shouldn't see a return of the fog on Wednesday.

Expect temperatures in the high single digits, with some rain near the end of the week.
