Autism walk a success

More than $5,000 was raised this past weekend for individuals and families living with Autism.

The Walk Now for Autism Speaks Canada event took to the streets of Kelowna on Sunday, with Buyer’s Choice Home Inspections of British Columbia lending a hand in the fight against autism.

Regional owners Kim and Dave Williams teamed up with South Okanagan, Kelowna and Vernon franchisees and their families to participate in the annual walking charity event sponsored by Autism Speaks Canada.

“Our work in Kelowna gives us the opportunity to help out a great organization,” said British Columbia regional owner Dave Williams. “As home inspectors, it is our job to promote the safety and well-being of individuals and families everywhere, and that’s what we aimed to accomplish by participating in Walk Now for Autism Speaks Canada.”

This particular walk and cause held great importance to the company's founder.

“This cause means the world to my family and me, and seeing the support for Autism Speaks Canada from our British Columbia team fills us with pride,” said ABCHI founder Bill Redfern.

“All of our franchisees share our commitment to raising funds for autism research and supporting those living with the disorder, but the British Columbia region is going above and beyond.”

Walk Now has raised more than $9.8 million since 2007, and the walks take place in more than 100 cities across North America.

The international event benefits Autism Speaks and Autism Speaks Canada, a nonprofit organization headquartered in Toronto.

Since its founding in 2005, the organization has grown into the largest autism science and advocacy organization in North America.
