Valley stars in TV ad

U.S. sports retail giant Under Armour is using the Okanagan as the backdrop for its latest ad campaign to promote its "charged cushioning footwear technology."

The 60-second commercial, featuring reigning NHL MVP Cary Price of the Montreal Canadians and national soccer team member Kaylyn Kyle, was recently shot in Kelowna and Penticton.

Filming took place at the Apple Bowl overnight on July 24 and 25. According to officials with the city, Under Armour paid a premium for the venue since it was being used overnight.

The production company transformed the facility from its football configuration (the Okanagan Sun were playing that night) to a soccer configuration for the commercial.

Scenes showed Kyle running the stairs of the Apple Bowl.

Price was seen training at the Okanagan Hockey Academy gym in Penticton.

The commercial, entitled “Charged Cushioning: Feel Charged” debuted earlier this week and features training scenes in which the Canadian athletes literally pull energy from the ground with each stride or change of direction, resulting in power outages all around them.

The full commercial is scheduled to be released early next month to coincide with the start of the NFL season. A shorter 30-second version is already airing.
