A successful triathlon

Smoky skies did not deter more than 650 athletes running in day two of the 33rd Annual Pushor Mitchell Kelowna Apple Triathlon.

Over the weekend event a total of 1,200 athletes from across Canada and the United states took part in three days worth of events in Kelowna’s downtown core.

Sunday’s races included the sprint distance for age groups as well as the Olympic distance.

According to organizers, this race represents the BC Provincial Championships for Standard (Olympic) distance and will also award one spot per age group for the 2016 ITU World Triathlon Championships in Mexico.

In addition the Olympic distance is an official qualifying race for competitors who wish to apply to be part of Team Canada at the 2016 ITU World Championships.

Kelowna’s Carmelle Guidi-Swan ran across the finish line with a time of 2:19:02 in the Olympic distance race. That times puts her in the top three female runners and also awards her the provincial championship.

In the sprint distance race, two local men made into the top three. Kelowna’s Jack Van Allen and Chad Reid took first and third consecutively.
