Naked for some causes

Cyclists bared it all this afternoon for the World Naked Bike Ride, an internationally celebrated event with a grab bag of causes.

Riders met at Mushroom Beach, just south of the William R. Bennett Bridge on the Kelowna side, and stripped down to whatever level they were comfortable with. There were approximately 20 people participating.

"We're only riding around for about an hour," said Madison Keller, the event organizer. "We're trying to keep it short because it is hot."

Keller said they hope to show how vulnerable cyclists are, protest against fossil fuel dependence and promote positive body image with the ride.

One of the participants, Apollo Agua, was recently arrested for nudity at the Mushroom Beach. Keller said they were not out to get arrested today.

"If we are stopped and told to cover up, we will definitely comply, because we want to be respectful," she said.

This is the second year that the event has happened in Kelowna.
