Plane tips on takeoff

UPDATE 5 P.M.

At approximately 4 p.m. this afternoon the pilot of a private two-seat aircraft experienced issues while on takeoff.  The aircraft veered off the runway.

It tipped nose first. There were no injuries to the pilot.

YLW’s Aircraft Rescue Firefighters were on scene to assist towing the aircraft off the runway.  The runway was closed for approximately 39 minutes which caused minor delays for two commercial flights.

By 4:45 p.m. YLW resumed regular operations.


No serious injuries reported following an incident at Kelowna International Airport this afternoon.

According to witnesses the plane tipped on to its nose during takeoff.

Emergency crews were dispatched to the scene.

It's not known how many people were on board at the time of the incident.
