Power restored

UPDATE 12:45 P.M.

Fortis BC reports power has been restored to all customers.

UPDATE 10:45 A.M.

Fortis BC says power has been restored to approximately 550 customers, leaving about 200 still in the dark.

UPDATE 10:20 A.M.

About 750 customers are without power in an area of Pandosy Street just south of Highway 97.

The area affected is south of the highway, east of Royal Avenue and west of Richter Street. This includes the traffic light at Sutherland Avenue and Pandosy.

Construction workers were in the area at the time of the outage.

FortisBC spokesperson Grace Pickell said crews are on site trying to assess the situation.

As for the cause, all Pickell could say is it is an equipment malfunction.

"When an equipment failure happens it means that component of our system was working properly so, it will stop working instead of continuing to conduct electricity," said Pickell.

"When we see that happen the next step is to replace that component to restore service for our customers."

Pickell said there is no estimate yet as to when power will be restored.

Power is out to a section of Kelowna Friday morning after work in the area knocked out power.

Street lights, homes and businesses along Pandosy, in the 1900 block area, are currently without power.

Fortis BC says power is out to 750 customers and they expect power to be back on by 11 a.m.

Residents around 1938 Pandosy say they heard a loud pop or bang in their alley before power went out.

A cable is dangling from one of the power poles and crews are on the scene trying to fix the issue.
