Driver runs from crash

UDPATE 5:00 P.M.

A 26-year-old Prince George man faces a number of potential charges, after multiple vehicles were struck this afternoon, sending two to hospital.

On March 26 at approximately 1:06 p.m., the Kelowna RCMP responded to a report of a three vehicle crash at Highway 97 and Cooper Road.

“A witness on scene advised that they witnessed a crash at Leckie Road and Highway 97,” explains RCMP Cpl. Joe Duncan. “The witness followed the vehicle towards the Hunter Court area where the suspect allegedly drove onto a grassy area causing damage. The suspect vehicle continued to Leckie Road at Enterprise Way where it struck another vehicle.”

According to the witness, who continued to follow the truck, the suspect then ran the red light at the intersection of Cooper Road and Highway 97 causing the accident.

“The suspect vehicle struck a minivan and pushed the van into an SUV,” says Duncan. “The truck driver exited his vehicle and ran off. The witness, who followed the vehicle from the start, gave chase and apprehended the man a short distance later and held him for police.”

The occupants of the minivan were transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries, while the occupants of the SUV were treated and released on scene.

“The brave citizen who reported the emergency situation, followed the suspect, and eventually apprehended him, did not sustain any injuries,” adds Duncan.

The Prince George man is now facing a number of potential criminal and motor vehicle act charges.
