Pedestrian pinned under van

Bright rays from the early morning sun are being blamed for an incident that sent a Kelowna woman to hospital on Monday.

Police say the driver of a white Ford E-350 van failed to see the pedestrian crossing Rutland Road at McCurdy Road, at about 8:15 a.m.

The van had been attempting to turn right onto Rutland Road when the female driver struck the 20-year-old woman, pinning her underneath the vehicle.

“Apparently the sun was in her eyes – it was pretty bright this morning – and she heard a thump. That’s when she struck the person,” says Cst. Kris Clark.

“The woman was actually pinned under the vehicle. (The driver) had to back off of her.”

The pedestrian was rushed to hospital with what police believe are non-life-threatening injuries.

Clark says it’s too early to say if charges will be laid, and no alcohol or drugs are believed to have been involved.

The pedestrian was crossing the road with a green light.
