Crash victim identified

Tuesday 11:30 a.m. update

The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of a woman who died after a motor vehicle incident near Kelowna on Dec. 20.

She was Frances Marie Strocher, aged 48, of Kelowna.

Ms. Strocher was the driver and sole occupant of a car heading southbound on Highway 97 at about 12:50 p.m. on Dec. 20 when the car was in a head-on collision with a semi-tractor-trailer unit.

Ms. Strocher was deceased at the scene.

The BC Coroners Service and RCMP Traffic Services continue to investigate this death.

Ms. Strocher's family has been notified of her death.

On behalf of family members, the BC Coroners Service asks that the media respect their privacy at this difficult time.
 


According to the Kelowna RCMP, it was a 48-year-old Kelowna woman that was found deceased in Saturday’s head-on collision near Duck Lake.

The incident occurred just after noon, on Highway 97.

“According to witnesses, a southbound Volkswagen Tiguan crossed two lanes of traffic and impacted a northbound commercial vehicle that had been travelling in the outside lane,” says Cst. Kris Clark.

“Tragically, the female driver of the Volkswagen suffered extensive traumatic injuries and died in the crash.”

Two people in the commercial truck suffered relatively minor injuries and were treated at the scene.

Traffic services and the BC Coroners Service continue to investigate the scene.
