Pros and joes raise $16k

The second annual JDS Energy Pros vs Joes charity hockey game raised more than $16,000 for the Kelowna Food Bank Saturday.

Last year the game, which brings former NHL players and Kelowna Rockets to the ice against local names such as mayor Colin Basran, raised $7,500 and this year they more than doubled that number.

Former professional hockey players such as Todd Simpson (Calgary Flames), Jeff Finley (St. Louis and five other NHL teams) and Tyler Bouck (Vancouver Canucks) were on the ice.

"Any time we can raise money for a good cause it's a lot of fun," Kelowna Mayor Colin Basran said. "Kudos to JDS for putting this on, it's pretty cool."

Executive director at the Kelowna Food Bank Lenetta Parry said they're thrilled to be a part of this event.

"It's a fun event and great for families," she said."It's great to have that sportsmanship and the mix of NHL players, Kelowna players and Rockets. We are definitely encouraging people to watch out for the third annual, if they missed it this year they can come out next year."

"We thank JDS and his team and the volunteers and the players and everyone who has come out to make the second annual a success."

Admission was a cash donation to the food bank.
