Gray heads up ICBC board

It didn't lake long for the public sector to scoop up outgoing Kelowna Mayor, Walter Gray.

Gray, who will officially turn over the keys to the city to mayor-elect, Colin Basran Dec 1, has been appointed the new chair of ICBC's board of directors.

The position takes effect Nov 30.

This is not the first time Gray has been appointed to the board of a major corporation.

Gray previously held director positions with FortisBC, the BC Lottery Corporation, BC Transit and Telefilm Canada. He was also a past president of the BC Association of Broadcasters.

“This appointment as board chair is an incredible honour and I look forward to serving the citizens of BC in this capacity with the goal of keeping ICBC rates as low and as affordable as possible for all ICBC customers," says Gray.

Gray is the first chair of ICBC from outside the Lower Mainland.

Previous board chairs have been from Metro Vancouver.

“I am delighted with this new appointment. Walter Gray brings experience, knowledge and commitment, and I know he is excited to roll up his sleeves and start in his new role," says Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure, Todd Stone.

"The chair of ICBC’s board of directors is an important and valuable role and I have every confidence that Walter Gray will do an excellent job serving ICBC and the citizens of B.C. I would also like to thank Jatinder Rai for his great work and valuable contributions serving as interim chair since January 2014.”
