Selling lemonade for teachers

Two young West Kelowna students held a lemonade stand fundraiser for teachers.

Kirsten Hanik, 10 and Lauren Hanik, 7 are students at Helen Gorman Elementary. They took it upon themselves to set up a lemonade stand on Sunday.

"I asked them what they were going to do with the money and they said, 'it's for the teachers, we want school to start," said Tanya Hanik.

The girls plan on bringing the $8.50 they raised to their teachers on the picket line.

"Kids don't understand all the politics involved in this situation; the money, the bargaining, the lies and/or facts. They just want to go back to class - regardless of how many desks are in each one."

The girls biked around the neighbourhood posting signs on mailboxes and made the lemonade themselves.

"So proud of them. Just so sad that they are the ones that pay the price."
